SAFEGUARDING STUDENTS

Nidderdale High School is fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of all students.

The school's designated Safeguarding lead is Anthony Devanney, Deputy Headteacher.  Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads are Anneliese Walker (Pastoral Support and Family Outreach Lead), Jan Ashton (Head of Key Stage 4) & Tim Connors (Head of Key Stage 3).  

In school through the curriculum and through drop down days students develop the skills which they will need to be confident and stay safe in a range of situations, as well as to manage risk effectively, both in school and in the wider world. Vulnerable young people and their families are supported through a commitment to multi-agency, family-centred work, with school staff playing a lead role.

A range of policies provide a framework of protocols and procedures to enable our Safeguarding work to be carried out effectively. Copies of all Moorlands Learning Trust policies relating to Safeguarding can be accessed here. Safeguarding policies include:

REPORTING A  SAFEGUARDING CONCERN

If you are concerned about any member of our school community, please let us know. You can report a concern that affects you directly or a concern you might have about someone else by email to support@nidderdale.mlt.co.uk

Types of concern you might wish to raise include:

• Bullying behaviour
• Community issue
• Discrimination based on race, disability, sexual orientation, gender, faith or age,
• Friendship issue
• Harassment or stalking behaviour
• Suicidal thoughts, self-harm or deteriorating mental health

This is not an exhaustive list. If something is causing you concern personally or you are concerned for someone else, let us know. We want to help.  Your concern will be sent confidentially to a member of staff who is responsible for concerns, complaints and safeguarding.

If you are unable to contact the school and where there are significant immediate concerns about the safety of a child, you should contact the police on 999.

If you are unable to contact the school and your query is not urgent please use the email address social.care@northyorks.gov.uk to liaise with the Customer Service Centre and you will receive a response within 24 hours.

If you believe the situation is urgent but does not require the police, please call 0300 131 2 131 to make a telephone contact. When prompted, say “children’s social care”. One of the advisors will be happy to support you.

EXTREMISM AND RADICALISATION

All schools have a legal duty to protect young people from the risk of radicalisation, and to safeguard them from being drawn into terrorism. This is known as the "Prevent duty". We achieve this through:

• PSHE lessons and drop down days which promotes tolerance and respect and teach about the dangers of extremism
• Robust web filtering systems to keep students safe online
• Support for vulnerable students and clear procedures for referrals
• Working in partnership with other agencies
• Appropriate training for staff and governors
